Saturday:
La Jolla, CA
We checked into the Grande Colonial and were automatically upgraded to a jr. oceanview suite. Score! The hotel was awesome. It was very old but all completely redone, and the history behind it was so cool to see. We walked to the beach and did a little hike. I had to take a few breaks because I get tired really easily. We had lunch at a place called Cody's (best french toast ever), and dinner at Steakhouse Azul on the ocean (beautiful view).
Drive to Coronado
We went back to breakfast at Cody's because it was so good the day before! Then we hopped in the convertible and drove to Coronado. We checked in at the Loews Coronado Bay and walked to the beach. So beautiful!! We tried out the on site restaurant Market for dinner, and it was no so good. We were pretty disappointing.
Monday:
Terry decided he wanted a room with a better view (our view was great, overlooking the bay, but he wanted to be able to see the city over the bay), so we headed down to the front desk to see what our options were. They were able to get us the best room in the house, so we took it. After that we decided to give Market another try for breakfast, and it was excellent! We hung out by the pool all day (note to self: need to reapply sunscreen every 30 minutes!!), and headed into the town of Coronado for dinner at Miguel's. They had free queso there! When they bring out your chips and hot sauce, you get queso also. We were very excited about this!
Tuesday:
We had booked a whale watching cruise, so we got up and headed to the boat, stopping on the way at Einstein's Bagels for breakfast. This has now become my new obsession. The whale watching cruise was my favorite part of the trip. While we didn't see any whales, I just love being out on the water! We saw tons of dolphins and other sea life. And best of all, I didn't get sick on the boat! After the cruise was over, we went to the Gaslamp quarter for lunch. We were pretty tired after all of that, so we went back to the hotel and did another beach walk, then ordered room service and watched the sunset over the ocean from our balcony. It was beautiful.
Wednesday:
We went to Einstein's again for breakfast. Then we went to the San Diego Zoo. It was so awesome! We ate lunch at the zoo and walked around for about 3 hours visiting all the animals. My favorite was the koala bears- so cute! We left the zoo and headed to the pool, then went back into Coronado for dinner on the bay overlooking the city at Poehe. This was supposed to be a really nice place, but we were not impressed with the food.

Thursday:
We went to the The Del to check out the massive hotel and beach. It was really cool. We had lunch at the Sundeck at The Del and laid out on the beach. Terry went swimming in the ocean for a bit. We went to dinner at another on site restaurant at our hotel called Mistral. I had lobster risotto and Terry had a filet. We both were very impressed with our dinner.
Friday:
We went into town to Clayton's for breakfast. We kept seeing this place and there were always a ton of people waiting, so we figured it had to be good, and it was! We did another pool day and then headed into town for pizza. The wait was FOREVER long for the pizza place, so we went to a Mexican place called Candelas, which had a beautiful view of the city over the bay. There was a fireworks show right outside and we had a perfect seat for it.
Saturday:
Time to go back home! We loved San Diego but were ready to come home to see our pups. We will be back soon!
